Silver Jewellery Making for Beginners Part 1
Welcome to the first four lessons in our Jewellery Making Series - 'Silver Jewellery Making for Beginners Part 1.
The first 4 lessons cover: Marking Out, Cutting Out, Filing and Emerying and Finishing.
Lesson 1 :- Marking Out
In this video which Delia recorded, you will learn the various methods of transferring designs onto your metal including: use of double sided sticky tape; transferring complex designs using carbon paper, and the pin prick method. Also covered in this lesson: how to draw straight lines, parallel lines, and circles using steel tools.
In this video tutorial, Delia shows you how to fit your blade to the saw frame, correct seating position which is important to avoid back problems. How to saw straight lines, right angles and curves. How to pierce out inner shapes. What to do if the blade gets stuck.
The skills of filing and the use of emery paper will be covered in this video tutorial. Delia will also show you which file to use for which job and the effective use of emery paper using the lapping technique. You will begin to learn how to use filing as a way of enhancing the design of your piece and how to create a 3D effect.
In this video, Janet will cover various different methods of finishing a piece. The high shine finish, satin and matt finishes will be shown. The motor polisher, hand held polisher, burnisher, garyflex and wire wool will all be used to demonstrate the various finishes.
